"Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." -Richard Steele

A Message From Mrs. Stroud

Dear Elementary Family,

After February’s unpredictable weather, I’m hesitant to mention it in this month’s newsletter—but here’s hoping March brings us milder days and a more consistent schedule! Please take note of our snow make-up dates to stay on track.

We’re kicking off March with Read Across America Week! Be sure to check out the dress-up days and the short article in this newsletter for details. Additionally, School Board Appreciation Month falls during spring break. Our board members are dedicated community volunteers who work hard to support our schools. If you’d like to share a message of appreciation, please email it to archiestrong@archie.k12.mo.us. You can find a list of board members on our website. Let’s recognize their efforts by attending the March 17th board meeting or sending a kind note.

  • March 3 – School in Session (Snow Make-Up Day)

  • March 3-7 – Read Across America Week

  • March 4 – Elementary Class & Spring Pictures

A message from Mrs. Parker, Librarian:

Read Across America Week

Read Across America week is March 2-8. This week-long celebration of books, authors, and reading is a perfect opportunity for your family to create new reading habits or to celebrate the reading culture that already exists in your home.

We talk so much about reading in school, and there’s a great reason for that: Reading is a foundational skill that’s necessary for our students to succeed in ALL content areas. Not only is the ability to read well necessary for a successful life, but it also has a long list of other benefits!

Some benefits of reading include:

  • Exercise for your brain

  • Enhanced curiosity and information-seeking skills

  • Enhanced creativity

  • Improved concentration and focus

  • Improved memory

  • Better writing skills

  • Reduced Stress

  • Enhanced Mood

  • Stronger vocabulary

  • Increased empathy

  • Great, FREE entertainment

If you are looking for ways to add reading time at home, it’s so simple! Just start by setting aside a little time each day to read together as a family. Younger readers LOVE to read with an older sibling or adult, and older students who see adults reading in the home recognize the importance and enjoyment of this activity.

You can also set a time for weekly visits to our public library here in Archie. Reading is one activity that can truly be enjoyed by every member of the family!

teamwork

The #ArchieStrong character trait for March is Teamwork.

Dear Families,

Teamwork is working respectfully and effectively with a group to achieve a common goal. Part of working as a team is each person doing his or her share.

Teamwork comes in many different forms while at school:

  • Working collaboratively to complete a project

  • Sharing resources during small group time

  • Playing together during centers

  • Playing games together at recess

  • Everyone completing classroom responsibilities at the end of the day

  • Community sports activities

The 5th-grade leadership group and the National Honor Society will work together to do a fundraiser for a college scholarship. It will be "Coins for College". Be on the lookout for more information!

Warmly,

Mrs.Johnston, Archie School Counselor

Parents as Teachers

PAT is available for families from prenatal to the start of kindergarten. This program is intended to support our upcoming Whirwinds and their families.

Screenings for 3 and 4-year-olds went well on February 27th and 28th. Approximately 40 little Whirlwinds made it to our screening day. We are excited to prepare for preschool enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year!

Contact Kristi Reynolds at 816-293-5312 x 1093 with any questions or for more information.
