Message from Mrs. Stroud

Hello Whirlwind families!

February is shaping up to be a very busy and exciting month at Archie Elementary! We are proud of how hard our students continue to work and are grateful for the strong partnership we share with our families.

Thank you to all the families who participated in our Winter Math and Reading Challenges. Your support makes a meaningful difference, and we love seeing our students excited about learning both at school and at home.

Many important events are coming up this month. Class pictures will take place on February 5th; your child will not want to miss that day! Our PTO will sponsor a school dance on February 7th. We appreciate their continued support of our students and staff. Midterm reports will be available on February 11th, so please check your child’s grades in Infinite Campus. Watch for carnation orders to come home in backpacks! Valentine parties will be held on February 13th, and as of right now, the 100th day of school will be February 17th. This is an exciting day in many of our classrooms! Families should also watch for information about preschool screenings, which will take place on February 19th–20th.

With such a full calendar, we appreciate your continued involvement and communication. Please continue reading with your child at home and reach out to your child’s teacher to discuss ways you can support their learning and growth.

We have more exciting news to share!  The Archie R-V School District saw a need in our community and came together to respond. Our families needed childcare, so our school found a way to make it happen. KIDZ INC. will now be located on our campus, strengthening the connection between our kids, our school, and our community. Thanks to a grant, the support of our school board, generous monetary and in-kind donations, KIDZ INC. will open this spring.

As always, thank you for your partnership and support. We look forward to a wonderful month ahead!

Character Trait of the Month:  Respect

Whirlwind families-

The character word for February is respect. It is like the Golden Rule: treat others the way you want to be treated, and value others for who they are. Respect involves using good manners, listening, accepting differences, and following rules to make everyone feel safe and valued.

Ways students can show respect:

Actions: Using kind words, sharing, taking turns, and apologizing when wrong.

Attitude: Just being kind, considerate of others' feelings, and recognizing differences in others.

Listening: Paying attention when others speak. Using eye contact and not interrupting.

Property: Caring for their own personal items, others' things, and the school/community.

Self-Respect: Recognizing one's own worth and doing one's best.

February is known for love and respect. February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. The 5th Grade Leadership Group will promote this day in our school. This day is a great opportunity to practice this character trait.

Check out this cute video on simple kindness!

Updates, Reminders and Upcoming Events

Santa Shop dates for december 15=16th

⇐  Reminder: All dismissal changes must be made by 12:00 PM each day unless there is an emergency. To help ensure teachers receive the information in time and students are dismissed safely, please avoid calling after noon. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

⇒Update: The City of Archie has recently enforced a one-way traffic pattern on N. Iowa. Due to this change, staff members coming from west of town will enter through the front student parking lot to help limit traffic near our crosswalks.

To support a safe and smooth arrival, please plan to arrive at 7:40 a.m., when students are able to enter the building, or avoid blocking parking spaces around the dome and ag building.

Thank you for your patience and for helping make this transition safe and successful for everyone.

⇒The PTO Alice In Wonderland dance will be on February 7th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  Purchase tickets now from a PTO board member or the night of the event.

They will also be selling tickets for the basket fundraiser.  Thank you to those of you that have sent in items for your child's grade level!

Mrs. Carolyn Johnston and Ms. Sarah Christy support our students, parents, and staff throughout the school year. Please consider taking a moment to send them a quick note of thanks for all they do for our school community.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As part of ongoing support for families, your child’s school is offering a series of classes for parents and guardians through a partnership with the Behavior Intervention Support Team (BIST). These training sessions are designed to provide ways you can support your child’s developing academic and behavior skills, as well as increase consistency between home and school.
BIST Virtual Parenting Series.

These classes are designed to:
 Create consistency between school and home
 Provide language for adults to use when redirecting children
 Share ways to problem solve to increase your child’s success
 Increase generosity and kindness in your children
 Bring a sense of calm to your home
Please join us for any or all three sessions!

These virtual classes are provided free of charge; however, we do ask that you please register through our website on or before Tuesday, February 3rd. Instructions for registration are in the column to the right.
We are excited to offer this opportunity to you!

Staff members enjoyed visiting the Woot-Woot Wagon at lunchtime, too!

Thank you to You Matter Archie for always making us feel special!

Self Control Students of the Month for January

Bottom Right: These students were recognized for their self-control in the classroom and throughout the school building. They often respond with, yes mam, ok or just do what is asked, even if it is hard.  You will see these students doing the right thing even when others are struggling.#ArchieStrong

Bottom Left: The Whirlwind Buck winners for January received a gift certificate for a free donut at Archie Casey’s! Students earn Whirlwind Bucks in specials, Title I, and at lunch. All bucks are entered into a drawing at the end of each month, and five winners are selected to receive this special treat.
