Short Message from Mrs. Stroud

Dear Whirlwind Families,

Can you believe that we are in the final weeks of the 2023-2024 school year? The second semester flew by! Although there isn't much time left, we still have more learning and important end-of-year events.

MAP testing for our 3rd-5th grade students and benchmark testing for all elementary students is under way. We ask that you encourage your child to do his or her best and show us all that has been learned this year! We are excited to celebrate all our students have accomplished!

We will observe Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week from May 6th to May 10th! Take a moment to share with a teacher or staff member any special memories you and your child have from this year or what you have appreciated. It is important to take time to see the great things that are happening all around us. I also challenge you to reach out to a teacher you had growing up that made a significant impact on your life.

Thank YOU for your partnership throughout the year! Your open communication, studying with your child, attending meetings, and attending events all have an impact on your child's education. When we work together, it makes a difference! Thank you once again for all you do!

Don't forget to spend time reading and practicing math facts over the summer. Spending at least 30 minutes a day polishing skills can make a big difference when your child returns to school in August!

Directing

Congratulations to Mrs. Julie Cooper! Mrs.Cooper is retiring from Archie R-V after 26 years of dedication to education! We encourage any parent, former student or current student to send special messages to thankscooper@archie.k12.mo.us, send a card to the school, or attend her final concert on Wednesday, May 1st!

Eclipse

On April 8th, all students and staff observed the eclipse. The school district purchased glasses to make this experience safe and memorable. Some of us were here in 2017 when the last eclipse was visible. What fun memories!

dare grad

This semester, our 5th grade students participated in DARE. The graduation was held on April 18th. Norah Shipley and Zaida Royster were the essay winners! Under the direction of Mrs. Cooper, the classes performed for their families and friends.

On Friday, April 5th the staff members pictured on the right screened thirty-three incoming kindergarten students. It was exciting to meet the students and their families!

If you know someone who missed this opportunity, please have them contact the school at 816-293-5312 ext. 101 to schedule a screening.

culvers night

We Need Your Help!

The PTO participated in Culver's Night once again. They raised $800 to go towards the new playground. Thank you to anyone who made it to Culver's for dinner or a tasty treat!

In addition to Culver's Night the PTO held a trash bag fundraiser, sponsored the art show, and conducted the book fair! We appreciate all they do to support our school!

On April 15th, the PTO playground committee presented to the board. They shared the success of phase one completion to the playground and made plans with the district to move forward with phase two. They will continue to raise funds for this dynamic project as they partner with the district to get equipment ordered.
