October Elementary Family Newsletter

This newsletter is a quick and handy resource for upcoming events at school and in the community. We hope everyone finds something helpful and informative inside!

Message from Mrs. Stroud

Hello Whirlwind families!

If you haven’t checked out the Parent Portal on Infinite Campus, be sure to do so. Through the portal, you can view your child’s current grades, attendance, lunch balance, missing assignments, and more. If you need help logging in, please contact Pam Medcalf or Anna Hall in the main office.

Just a reminder: dismissal procedures outlined in the handbook ask that all transportation changes be called into the office by 12:00 p.m. This allows time to notify both the teacher and the student before dismissal.

Additionally, please remember to notify Anna Hall in the Front Office (Rooms) if your child will be absent due to illness. If the office has not been contacted by 9:30 a.m., you will receive an automated call reporting the absence. Thank you for helping us keep things running smoothly!

We look forward to seeing you at Parent-Teacher Conferences at the end of the month. Teachers aim to meet with 100% of their students’ families, as sharing progress and discussing areas of growth is a top priority for our team. We know you value this time with your child’s teacher as much as we do.

Finally, don’t forget to check out the Important Dates listed below. You can also use the Events tab on the Archie App to stay up to date on upcoming activities—from PAT events to high school sports.

Character Word of the Month: Honesty
For October, our focus is on teaching and practicing honesty. At Archie, we can help students understand and value honesty by:

  • Modeling honesty in our own words and actions

  • Having open conversations that build trusting relationships with adults and peers

  • Using books and personal stories to highlight honest behavior

  • Creating a safe environment where truth-telling is encouraged

  • Praising and rewarding honest choices

  • Talking openly about the consequences of dishonesty

Red Ribbon Week: October 21st–24th
Red Ribbon Week is a wonderful opportunity to teach students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. You may be surprised at how many of our elementary students have already encountered these issues in some way. During this week, the Archie Elementary Leadership Group will be promoting healthy, drug-free choices through activities and reminders.

Together, let’s help our students grow into honest, responsible, and safe young people!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month
At Archie Schools, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for every student. This month, we join schools across the nation in taking a stand against bullying by promoting kindness, respect, and inclusion. Students are reminded that their words and actions matter, and that standing up for others makes our community stronger. We encourage families to have conversations at home about the importance of treating others with empathy and respect. Together, we can ensure Archie is a place where everyone feels valued and safe.

Transportation Update for the 2025–2026 School Year

BUS RIDERS:

Ecco Ride is off to a great start in the Archie School District. If you have any changes, concerns, or questions, contact Stacie Hopkins at 816-804-4845. She would be happy to help. Stacie is our lead driver and helps coordinate transportation and safety in Archie.

  • If your child will not be riding the bus for two or more consecutive days, please contact the driver or Stacie Hopkins.

  • Students may not get off the bus at a different stop without permission from both the bus company and a parent.

  • Due to limited seating, students are not permitted to ride home with a friend on a different bus. Families will need to make other arrangements.
